Support for You and Your Clients Hi. I'm Laurel Lagoni , founder and former director of the pet loss support program at the James. L. Voss Veterinary Teaching Hospital at Colorado State University (CSU). As a veterinary grief counselor, I spent 20 years "in the trenches" helping clients say good-bye to their beloved companion animals. I worked from my heart and I know how rewarding, and emotionally draining, this work can be! I'm still passionate about helping pet parents. And, these days, I'm also passionate about helping YOU help the pet parents you serve. That's why I'm sharing the clinical communication skills and emotional support protocols I taught and used at CSU. Collectively, this approach is known as providing "Bond-Centered Care" in a "Bond-Centered Practice." My colleagues and I coined these terms in our 1994 textbook The Human-Animal Bond and Grief to describe a specific approach to providing client care, especially during emotionally-charged situations. After creating and teaching the Bond-Centered Practice approach for 20 years, I'm delighted to be able to continue to pass on these concepts.
